I've completed my first painting in India. It is called Outside the Window #1. I've been fascinated by the colors of India. They are so vibrant. Chennai is also on the ocean and so we actually also have the pastel and sun washed colors of any ocean community. The sunrises and sunsets here are gorgeous. The two other main elements to this painting are the beautiful iron work that is everywhere and on every window (we think now to keep out the birds) and the wonderful Kolams that are everywhere - including outside our window. Every morning women in South India paint and/or draw Kolams at the entrances to their homes. Kolams are a traditional art that is passed down from mother to daughter with an extraordinary amount of diversity to them. I've been keeping a journal of them as I see them - either in front of our flat or around town. The Kolams in this painting are representational of some of the main elements I see repeated consistently.

We made it to India! We just love Chennai and our apartment. My husband and I have a joint blog where we will be blogging about living in Chennai: http://christojourney.wordpress.com - I will continue to use this blog to talk about my art. Hopefully I will get a chance to get to painting and creating again here soon. I still haven't figured out if I will be selling on Etsy - I think the shipping from India might just be too crazy, but we'll see. Thank you all for your well wishes!

We had an absolutely lovely Mother’s Day weekend up in Asheville. We made Strawberry Shortcake and it turned out fabulous. It was a lovely simple recipe I found here: http://tinyurl.com/3z69lf. The key of course is fresh picked strawberries that my husband got a roadside farm stand - All I can say is yummy!

My husband and I are moving to INDIA!

We are so excited! I've just recently accepted a job as a Middle School IT Integration Specialist at the American International School of Chennai. I am so excited about this opportunity and feel just so amazingly lucky!

As we prepare for the move I will be listing almost all of my paintings and a lot of my art materials on Etsy.

A new year - how exciting! It is filled with unlimited possibilities and new ideas. I'm going to be working more this year on developing a real sketchy feeling in my art - incorporating more wire, charcoal, and paper. I really also want to work on smaller paintings that I would be able to ship easier. Also considering jewelry for this year! Oh so many ideas - now if only this was all I had to do! :)

Be on the lookout for some of these new works on Etsy. I will also be posting some images of my latest painting within the next couple of days.

My co-worker (Donna Murray) has been working with a teacher here in our district to create a video for a contest sponsored by Interwrite Learning (Grand prize = Interactive Classroom WORTH $15,000). Mrs. Bumgarner and her students at Hildebran Elementary worked hard to write lyrics and plan out the video and they just found out today that they MADE IT TO THE FINALS!

There are five finalists in each category (K-5, 6-8, and 9-12). Between now and November 8, you can vote for their video online. Online votes will make up 30% of the final score and the winner will be announced on November 27. Individuals may vote once in each category.

This has been one crazy week! Been doing so much at work with Web 2.0 tools. We are getting Blogs, Wikis, and Moodle going in our district! It is very exciting but has taken up a ton of my time. I did find a local bead shop in town and had such a great time talking to them! I may even be doing a training for the owner and some of the customers so that they can get going on Etsy! I just love Etsy and love being able to share it with other artists!

My husband and I are also going to San Francisco and Seattle over the Thanksgiving holiday! We are so excited! Neither of us have ever been to San Francisco or Seattle so we are so excited!!! WHOO HOO! We are big travelers and haven't been on a major trip since we went to Italy for Christmas two years ago! Our families blog from that trip is here... you will have to look at the older posts as my husband and I had to fly back early and my parents and sister went on to France after we left!
